Joe Henry
MA, LMHC
Joe is an authentic, thoughtful clinician with practiced skill in supporting lifelong seekers—people who yearn to understand themselves on a deeper level. He excels at working with those who are moving through times of transition, whether pursuing an educational goal, grappling with a life changing medical diagnosis, or beginning to explore themselves after releasing a long-held identity. Many of Joe’s clients have turned to him for support through experiences of anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and change.
Joe holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology, both of which he earned at Seattle University. With a foundation in existential-phenomenology, he utilizes psychodynamic psychotherapy to support his clients as they better understand the meaning tied to their relationships, experiences, and life circumstances. Through this process, individuals can begin to recognize how their past patterns and unconscious beliefs have a profound impact on day-to-day situations.
As an eclectic practitioner, Joe applies a flexible approach to therapy—pulling in pieces of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gestalt psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more. He recognizes the paramount importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and works to create a safe, supportive environment for each client.
Those who have worked with Joe have described him as capacious, citing his unique ability to hold life’s complexities with grace and compassion. Clients have expressed gratitude for Joe’s patience, diligence, and unhurried approach to providing support. Joe offers poignant insights without prescription or judgment, always offering space and empowering clients to be the driver of their own change.
After nearly a decade of individual private practice, and with a deep desire to build community, Joe co-founded Self and Other alongside Alexandra Woollacott. Together, their vision is to support clients through a shared philosophy while growing a dynamic practice of like-minded clinicians.
Aside from his work as a therapist, Joe has a rich history as a performer and entertainer—both in theater and for five years professionally as a stand-up comedian. In his free time, he can be found rooting for the Mariners, visiting museums, or enjoying Seattle’s vibrant music and arts scene.
